伦敦博士联盟Curciform系列讲座之——“从普林斯顿聪明鼠之父到大脑解码先驱:与钱卓教授面对面” LPN Curciform Seminar Series — “From the Father of the Princeton Smart Mouse to the Pioneer of Brain Decoding: Face to Face with Professor Zhuo Qian”

伦敦博士联盟(LPN)此次邀请到享誉国内外的神经生物学家及分子生物学家钱卓教授,于2018年9月17日在伦敦大学学院(UCL),给大家带来了一场关于“聪明鼠及大脑解码”的讲座,反响热烈。本次沙龙由伦敦大学学院药学院博士朱紫兰主持。

The London PhD Network (LPN) invited Professor Zhuo Qian, a well-known neurobiologist and molecular biologist at home and abroad, at University College London (UCL) on 17th September 2018 to bring you the seminar on “Smart Mouse and Brain Decoding” received enthusiastic response. The seminar was hosted by Zilan Zhu, PhD from the School of Pharmacy, University College London.

钱卓教授在会上向大家介绍到,在普林斯顿大学任教时期,他已经知道NMDA受体是重要的记忆分子开关,但它由几个亚单位组成还尚不清晰,研究了这些亚单位的生理特征后,他认为NR2B可能是调节NMDA受体功能的关键分子。为了证实自己的推测,钱卓教授和同事决定以老鼠为试验对象,将NR2B基因转入小鼠脑中,结果显示小鼠的记忆与学习能力得以强化。随后钱卓教授在《自然》上发表自己的研究成果, “聪明鼠”成为1999年世界十大科技成就之一,普林斯顿大学立即为“聪明鼠”申请了专利,并开始着手商业开发。

同时,钱卓教授也是国际上最早开展脑功能基因组研究的科学家之一。目前,他领导的研究组已率先在《美国国家科学院院报》上发表了三篇有关脑功能基因组图谱的研究论文。钱卓教授的研究工作得到了国际学术界的重视。会上,钱卓教授向大家介绍了他关于大脑编码原理的的研究,以及要将研究方向着重在推动类似人类基因组计划的国际“大脑破译计划”的理念,引发与会人员的许多创新思路。此外,在产学研方面,钱卓教授与上海市警局等国内单位合作,将人工智能、大脑设计和计算原理研究及吸毒成瘾的机理研究进行交叉整合,成功进行一系列检测大脑行为的健康电子产品的成果转化运用,如吸毒酒驾二合一检测仪等。

来自伦敦高校的30多名博士与博士后参与了讲座,与钱卓教授进行了深入的交流讨论,并对此次活动做出高度评价。伦敦博士联盟将一如既往举办高水平学术交流研讨会及学术沙龙活动,为青年学者的跨学科交流及合作提供平台。

【主讲嘉宾介绍】

钱卓教授担任美国乔治亚医学院大脑与行为研究所所长、西双版纳生物医学研究院院长兼首席科学家、华东师范大学紫江教授、脑功能基因组学研究所所长、上海市脑功能基因组学重点实验室主任、中组部千人专家。1996年,还在做博士后研究的钱卓教授首次将Cre-loxP重组酶系统用于脑科学研究,现在Cre-loxP重组酶系统介导的神经遗传技术成为了脑科学领域的基本技术平台之一,为基因在各脑区的特异性敲除、转基因表达、脑彩虹影像、逆转录病毒神经网路示踪、大脑透明技术、化学遗传学和光遗传学等提供基础技术支撑。1999年,钱卓教授在普林斯顿大学任教期间,构建的聪明鼠的工作被时代杂志、纽约时报作为封面故事广泛报道,并被媒体誉为“聪明鼠之父”。钱卓教授还是国际大脑破译计划(BrainDecoding Project)的发起人和负责人。近期发现了大脑的设计与计算原理,将为研发脑智能、类脑计算、新一代人工智能领域提供理论框架。

Professor Zhuo Qian introduced to everyone at the meeting that when he was teaching at Princeton University, he already knew that the NMDA receptor is an important memory molecular switch, but it is not clear that it consists of several subunits. He has studied the physiology of these subunits. After characteristics, he believes that NR2B may be a key molecule that regulates the function of NMDA receptors. In order to confirm their speculation, Professor Zhuo Qian and his colleagues decided to use mice as the test subjects and transfer the NR2B gene into the brains of mice. The results showed that the mice’s memory and learning abilities were strengthened. Afterwards, Professor Zhuo Qian published his research results in Nature. The “Smart Mouse” became one of the top ten scientific and technological achievements in the world in 1999. Princeton University immediately applied for a patent for the “Smart Mouse” and began commercial development.

At the same time, Professor Qian Zhuo is also one of the first scientists in the world to conduct research on brain functional genomics. At present, his research group has taken the lead in publishing three research papers on the atlas of brain function genomics in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Qian Zhuo’s research work has been valued by the international academic community. At the meeting, Professor Zhuo Qian introduced his research on the principle of brain coding and the idea of ​​focusing on the promotion of the international “Brain Deciphering Project” similar to the Human Genome Project, which triggered many innovative ideas among the participants. In addition, in the aspect of production, education and research, Professor Zhuo Qian cooperated with the Shanghai Police Bureau and other domestic units to cross-integrate artificial intelligence, brain design and computer science research and drug addiction mechanism research, and successfully carried out a series of healthy electronics to detect brain behaviour. Product transformation and application, such as drug and drunk driving two-in-one detector, etc.

More than 30 doctors and post-doctors from London universities participated in the lecture, had in-depth exchanges and discussions with Professor Zhuo Qian, and spoke highly of the event. The London Doctoral Union will continue to hold high-level academic exchange seminars and academic salon activities to provide a platform for interdisciplinary exchanges and cooperation among young scholars.

Professor Zhuo Qian serves as the director of the Institute of Brain and Behaviour at Georgia Medical College, the dean and chief scientist of the Xishuangbanna Institute of Biomedicine, Professor Zijiang of East China Normal University, the director of the Institute of Brain Functional Genomics, and Shanghai’s focus on brain functional genomics Director of the laboratory and a thousand experts of the Organization Department of the Central Committee. In 1996, Professor Zhuo Qian, who was still doing postdoctoral research, used the Cre-loxP recombinase system for brain science research for the first time. Now the neurogenetic technology mediated by the Cre-loxP recombinase system has become one of the basic technology platforms in the field of brain science. It provides basic technical support for gene specific knockout, transgene expression, brain rainbow imaging, retroviral neural network tracing, brain transparency technology, chemical genetics and optogenetics in each brain area. In 1999, during Professor Zhuo Qian’s teaching at Princeton University, the work of constructing Smart Mouse was widely reported by Time Magazine and the New York Times as a cover story, and was hailed as the “Father of Smart Mouse” by the media. Professor Zhuo Qian is also the initiator and head of the International Brain Decoding Project (BrainDecoding Project). Recently discovered the design and calculation principles of the brain, which will provide a theoretical framework for the research and development of brain intelligence, brain-like computing, and the new generation of artificial intelligence.
