“Artificial Intelligence” Symposium “人工智能”学术研讨会在伦敦成功举办

2018年2月12日,由伦敦博士联盟(London PhD Network)和弗朗西斯克里克研究所人工智能俱乐部(The Crick AI Club)共同举办的“人工智能研究以及应用”学术研讨会在弗朗西斯克里克研究所顺利召开。本次会议邀请了人工智能领域学界和业界的资深研究人员,就最新的研究进展,以及人工智能在其他领域的应用等方面发表了主题报告。本次会议吸引了近200名学者参会,涵盖了计算机科学,机器学习,生物工程以及医学健康各个领域。

On February 12, 2018, the “Artificial Intelligence Research and Application” symposium was successfully organized by the London PhD Network (LPN) and The Crick AI Club in the Francis Crick institute. This Symposium invited senior researchers in the field of artificial intelligence and the industry to gave keynote reports on the latest research progress and the application of artificial intelligence in a variety of fields. The symposium attracted nearly 200 scholars from computer science, machine learning, bioengineering, medical health, etc.

驻英使馆科技处蒋苏南公参为大会致开幕演讲。他详细介绍了目前中国科技的最新进展,政策导向,以及在现如今中英黄金关系时代,中英两方的合作前景。人工智能研究在英国有着很令人瞩目的高度,在这一领域的中英合作是一个被看好的方向。

帝国理工学院计算机科学系的Björn W. Schuller教授详细解读了深度学习在医疗健康领域中的应用,比如通过分析语音判断人的情感,这一技术可以应用在提供精神关怀的智能机器人设计上,预计会带来医疗服务行业的革命。伦敦大学学院计算机科学系的David Jones 教授探讨了人工智能在生物信息科学领域的应用,通过人工智能来学习蛋白质的三级结构,带来更准确更高效的蛋白结构预测,对结构生物学家和化学家带来极大的帮助。伦敦大学学院健康信息学研究所的 Spiros Denaxas 教授则介绍了人工智能在流行病学和疾病管理领域的重要意义,通过开发新型的学习算法,可以将患者的健康记录,就诊记录和死亡率登记联系起来,用于风险预测。来自帝国理工学院数据科学研究所的董豪介绍了TensorLayer人工智能平台的开发与应用,致力于人工智能平民化,该项目获得ACM MM2017最佳开源软件奖。来自DeepMind 公司的Raia Hadsell 博士和BenevolentAI 公司的技术主管 Amir Saffari 博士则各自在深度强化学习和通用人工智能方面的最新成果,以及机器学习在药物开发领域的应用前景这两方面做了精彩的报告。本次大会设置了学术海报展示环节,来自英国各大高校的AI研究人员在本次大会上展示了自己最前沿的进展,涵盖的领域包括结构生物,医疗健康,乐理研究,气象学以及地质学等等。这些学者进一步地展示出了AI在各个领域的发展前景,在和参会者的交流中碰撞出新的灵感。

本次大会的主席和发起人之一黄碧丹博士在采访中表示,本次大会旨在搭建一个人工智能领域的交流平台,让对人工智能感兴趣的专业人士能够充分探讨合作应用的机会。在以后的活动中,还会有许多不同的科学主题,通过这个平台能够让大家更了解彼此的工作,更好的帮助科学研究的进程和传播。本次研讨会的另一发起人宋平凡在介绍会议背景时说到,人工智能带给人类无尽的遐想,一直被寄予厚望,在经历过几次寒冬后,终于又迎来了新的春天。这一次的热潮凭借着大数据,高性能计算和人工神经网络的助力,在各个领域迅速发展,不断带来突破性的成果,让人们看到人工智能正深刻改变这个世界,成为大国科技竞争的角逐要点。本次会议在这一背景下召开,及时地为专业人士和学者提供了沟通,交流,和把握人工智能发展方向的机会。伦敦博士联盟今后会继续组织高水平高质量的学术研讨会,为博士,学者和专业人士服务。

Mr. Sunan Jiang — Minister Counsellor for Science and Technology at the Chinese Embassy in the UK attended the symposium. He gave a detailed introduction to China’s latest progress in science, technology and innovation, as well as policy orientation, Sino-British cooperation achievements and prospects in the golden era of China-UK relations. Artificial intelligence research has a very impressive height in the UK, and Sino-British cooperation in this field has a promising direction.

Professor Björn W. Schuller from the Department of Computer Science at Imperial College London explained in detail the application of deep learning in the medical and health field, such as judging human emotions by analyzing speech. This technology can be applied to the design of intelligent robots that provide spiritual care. It has the potential to bring about a revolution in the medical service industry. Professor David Jones from the Department of Computer Science at University College London discussed the application of artificial intelligence in the field of bioinformatics. Using artificial intelligence to learn the tertiary structure of proteins will bring more accurate and efficient protein structure predictions. Professor Spiros Denaxas from the Institute of Health Informatics at University College London introduced the importance of artificial intelligence in the field of epidemiology and disease management. Through the development of new learning algorithms, patients’ health records, medical records and mortality registration can be linked up and used for risk prediction. Dong Hao from the Institute of Data Science at Imperial College London introduced the development and application of the TensorLayer platform, a project dedicated to the civilianization of artificial intelligence. This project won the ACM MM2017 Best Open Source Software Award. Dr. Raia Hadsell from DeepMind and Dr. Amir Saffari, the technical director of BenevolentAI, gave excellent reports on their latest achievements in deep reinforcement learning and general artificial intelligence, as well as the application prospects of machine learning in the field of drug development. This conference set up an academic poster display session. AI researchers from major universities in the UK demonstrated their cutting-edge progress at this conference, covering areas including structural biology, medical health, music theory research, meteorology and geology and many more. These scholars further demonstrated the development prospects of AI in various fields, and spurred new inspirations during interaction with the participants.

Dr. Bidan Huang, one of the chairs and sponsors of this conference, said in an interview that this conference aims to build a communication platform in the field of artificial intelligence, so that professionals in artificial intelligence can fully explore opportunities for cooperation. In future activities, there will be many different scientific themes. Through this platform, everyone can better understand each other’s work and better help the dissemination of scientific research.

Pingfan Song, another initiator of this conference, introduced the background of the conference. He said Artificial Intelligence has brought endless reveries to mankind. After several cold winters, it finally ushered in a new spring. With the help of big data, high-performance computing, and artificial neural networks, AI has developed rapidly in various fields, and has been continuously bringing breakthroughs. People can see that AI is profoundly changing the world. This symposium was held in this context, providing professionals and scholars with opportunities to communicate, exchange, and grasp the direction of AI development in a timely manner. The London PhD Network will continue to organize high-level and high-quality academic seminars to serve doctors, scholars and professionals.
